Icarus Mixtape #36: Dictaphone Listen Here!
Dictaphone, already formed in the late nineties in Berlin is back with a new album after five years of silence.
The new album ARP 70 features the three Dictaphone core members Oliver Doerell (electronics, bass, guitar), Roger Döring(saxophone, clarinet) and Alex Stolze (violins) and has been composed and produced over the course of three years. It feels as if each of the uncountable layers of which the intricate arrangements are made has just the right amount of contrast to be visible, but there are only very few moments where one of the elements noticeably dominates the others. The cool jazz bits, analogue flourishes, hypnotic rhythms and refined electronics feed a dark serpent-like creature meandering in ever-changing morphologies through shapeless landscapes. "APR 70" is the perfect cocoon for the hazy days and the serene nights. The play at 10 Years Icarus, 8/3/18

We are very happy to present you "The last tears of an argonaut penguin”, a mixtape by Andrea Belfi.
He wanted to create a musical journey where happiness and sadness, drama and joyful moments are always dancing with each other. Belfi combined tracks he considers as personal classics (e.g. Ennio Morricone ‘Il Pinguino’) and new discoveries (e.g. Luka Productions ‘Furu Boyan’).
Italian-born Andrea Belfi is a drummer, composer and experimental musician. Artfully blending the acoustic with the electronic, his performances are equal parts energetic and hypnotic, featuring long-arching soundscapes that are rich and immersive. A live performer at heart, Belfi’s music comes to life on stage where he’s built a reputation for electrifying drum solos and off the cuff improvisations. He plays live at the 10th anniversary party of Icarus Radio.

Daniel O Sullivan is an English multi-instrumentalist and composer fromManchester, best known for playing in experimental art-rock bands Grumbling Fur, Guapo, Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses, Ulver, Sunn O))), Æthenor, Laniakea, Miracle and Mothlite. He also released solo work under his own name, his latest album was Veld, an album with luminous pop incantations, electroacoustic music and shimmering drones.
O'Sullivan is recognised for exploring a wide range of styles, including neo-classical composition, progressive/psychedelic rock, free-form improvisation, cosmic jazz, minimalist drone, ethereal synth-pop and outer-limits folk music. He made us a great psychedelic tape.

Icarus Mixtape #33: 9T Antiope Listen Here!
9T Antiope is an experimental duo (musicians Nima Aghiani and Sara Bigdeli Shamloo)band from Iran, based in Paris. The band formed in 2014 alongside the "Migrain Sq.” trio band, which also includes "Pouya Pour-Amin” and has existed since 2002.
Working since 2014 with this band, they released several albums including Syzygys and Isthmus (2017).
The main focus of the band is on experimental music, using layers of acoustic instruments, electronics and combining them with vocals and lyrics, in order to narrate tiny bits or huge landscapes of the chaotic worlds they vision, along with their inhabitants.

Christine Ott is a French composer, pianist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist. She was a member of Yann Tiersen band for eight years, and also played for classical orchestras for ten years. She is a recognized classical composer. From movie soundtracks to opera, through improvisation, contemporary music, theatre plays, dance or rock music, her musical path is always guided with a ‘no-limit’ spirit and the will to share her passion for new sounds, but especially with her old musical instrument which plays enigmatic and captivating waves: the Ondes Martenot. She recently collaboarated with Foudre! (band with Frédéric D. Oberland) and made a musical score with Tindersticks, Minute Bodies, in 2017.

Icarus Mixtape #31 by Nolf aka Anus Nocturnum, legendary musician and dj in Kortrijk and far beyond. Each year he sets Sinksen Kortrijk on fire with eclectic dj sets. He is a music freak, underground dj, record collector and makes music with modular synths since the nineties.
His releases appeared on Vlas Vegas, Usain Bolt Records and Wool-E Tapes. His legendary performances took place in regular venues in Kortrijk (BE) such as De Kreun, Cinépalace but also in a monasatry, bunkers, on a floating house etc. Here you get work by Pimania, The Lonesome Organist, Dreamies, Fondu, Brother J.T. and more.

Rutger Zuydervelt was born on 28 July 1978 in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands), but now resides in Rotterdam. He started working as Machinefabriek in 2004.
Machinefabriek's music combines elements of ambient, noise, minimalism, drone and field recordings. His pieces unfold as 'films without image', with a sharp ear for detail. After releasing a series of self released CD-Rs, the official debut, 'Marijn', was issued by Lampse in 2006. Since then a solid stream of singles and albums was released on labels like Type, 12K, Spekk, Dekorder, Digitalis, Experimedia and Staalplaat.
Rutger collaborated (on record and/or live) with numerous artists, such as Ralph Steinbrüchel, Aaron Martin, Peter Broderick, Frans de Waard, Wouter van Veldhoven, Simon Nabatov, Xela, Simon Scott, Steve Roden, Gareth Davis and Tim Caitlin amongst others.

Sound experimentalist, performer, founder of independent label Idiosyncratics and curator of art center Les Brasseurs, Yannick Franck (°1981, Liège, Belgium) has developed a highly personal body of work that ranges from sharp acoustic researches, immersions into abrasive walls of sound (often described as trance-inducing, his music is based on the treatment of sources such as instruments and non-musical objects, throat singing, radio signals and field recordings) intense audiovisual performances and art shows (including installations, paintings and video works). He’s part of industrial-noise duo Orphan Swords and funder of electroacoustic improvisation combo Y.E.R.M.O. (Venice Biennial 2009, Pavilion of Luxembourg).

Mixtape by Kreng (Pepijn Caudron), recording artist on Miasmah Records. Kreng started as a strictly sample-based project, working with sounds from various sources: free-jazz, first generation electronics, improv, classical modernism, vintage ethnomusical fieldrecordings, etc... The project mutated into a cinematic, theatrical device that has been used by various film and theater directors. Kreng scored more that 20 theatre- & danceproductions, most of them produced by the Belgian theatre-company Abattoir Fermé.
